The best Sahara route from Marrakech to Fes travels through the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. It combines Ksar Ait Benhaddou, Kasbah Amridil in Skoura, Todra Gorges, Erg Chebbi, the Merzouga region and the Ziz Valley palm groves.
No. A one-day desert journey is not practical because of the distance. The minimum for a fast trip is two or three days. The road from Marrakech to Merzouga is about 570 km, initially through the mountains, with many stops and changing landscapes on the way.
Yes. Fes is in northern Morocco, and a day tour via the Sahara is not possible. Erg Chebbi near Merzouga is the geographically suitable desert for this journey; travelling from Marrakech to Fes through it is a roughly 1,000 km road trip best completed in three, four or five days.
