What are the best day trips out of Marrakech?
Morocco is a vast and diverse country, so there is a wide variety of Marrakech day trips. With many years of experience, we selected practical destinations around Marrakech: Ait Benhaddou, Casablanca, Essaouira, Ourika, Ouzoud and Imlil. On request, we can also organise a day trip to Agadir or the Agafay desert.
How about day trips from Marrakech to Ouarzazate?
It is possible to cross the Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate, but the UNESCO-listed site of Ait Benhaddou lies roughly 28 km away and deserves the time. Although the two cities are around 200 km apart, crossing the Atlas at more than 2,000 metres takes at least four hours each way, so an Ait Benhaddou trip is already a full day from Marrakech.
Can you reach the Sahara Desert on a day trip from Marrakech?
No. Because of the distance between Marrakech and the Sahara, a one-day journey is out of the question. Allow at least two or three days, depending on the size of desert experience you want.
Is Casablanca far from Marrakech?
No. A Casablanca day tour from Marrakech is straightforward on Morocco’s motorway network. Casablanca is 244 km from Marrakech, and the one-way journey takes around one hour and thirty minutes to two hours.
What is the most requested Marrakech day trip?
Essaouira, Ouzoud Falls and Ait Benhaddou are the most requested options. Essaouira is 191 km west on the Atlantic Coast; Ouzoud is 159 km north, with culture, waterfalls and Barbary monkeys; Ait Benhaddou is 182 km south in the Atlas Mountains, with culture, history and dramatic landscapes.
How much Marrakech day trips cost?
Prices vary with the number of participants. Private day tours include hotel pick-up and an English-speaking driver, subject to high-season availability. From four participants, current starting prices are 500 MAD for Ait Benhaddou, 350 MAD for Imlil, 350 MAD for Ourika Valley, 400 MAD for Essaouira, 400 MAD for Ouzoud Waterfalls and 600 MAD for the Marrakech City Tour. A 15% supplement applies from 24 December to 5 January, when some day trips may be unavailable from 28 December to 2 January.
How do you book a day trip?
Book by completing the booking form. The team responds within 24 hours with availability, confirmation and the booking procedure, then asks for the hotel address or a phone number for riad stays in the medina.
What type of transportation is used?
Day excursions use an air-conditioned SUV such as a Toyota Land Cruiser or similar, or a minibus when the group requires a larger vehicle. Vehicles have checked seat belts.
Are these trips private or in a group?
Tours are private and the vehicle is not shared with anyone outside your friends or family. Occasional day-trip group departures run in high season; contact the team for availability and last-minute options.
